Registries

MEDICAL AND COMMERCIAL REGISTRIES
A data registry is an organized system that collects uniform data on subjects in a specified population, and then uses observational study methods to evaluate outcomes. Registries are generally designed for a specific purpose, so the data collected should be significant to the core planned analyses. Selected data elements should be reliable, necessary for the investigation of the primary outcomes, and have a reasonable incremental cost associated with their collection.

Clinical Data Registries fit this profile, but due to the fact that they handle Protected Health Information (PHI), they have to comply with various State and Federal regulations. Each Clinical Data Registry specializes on a certain healthcare segment and is administered by a Qualified Registry Manager. Its purpose is to collect clinical and outcomes data associated with diseases and medical procedures for the purpose of fostering improvement in the quality of care provided to patients. Registry Participants are usually healthcare providers who submit data from their facilities to the Qualified Registry Manager with this same purpose in mind.
